Mixing Greens
Instructor, Cate KauffmannIn Spring and Summer all the greens come out to play. Many artists are intimidated by the idea of mixing their own greens and buy multiple tubes, hoping to find the perfect green; however, they never look quite right. Students will learn to mix a wide range of greens using basic colors like yellow, blue, and a few browns. They also will learn how to mix to match specific hues from a reference photo or life and how to use complementary colors to soften or gray something they’ve mixed. Students will document their mixes so they can duplicate them later using a chart provided by the instructor. Please bring oil or acrylic paints, a half-inch flat brush, a reference photo you like with lots of greens, a non-paper palette (glass, wood or plexiglass), and a two- to three-inch-long flexible metal artist's palette knife. This class is for beginner to intermediate level students.
